Thermoregulation – brood rearing
Small colony does not achieve thermoregulation
There are cases where the colony is queenright and has brood, but is unable to maintain the nest temperature and humidity at the desired level. This is an indication of a small colony not capable to thermoregulate the space provided by the beekeeper. This phenomenon can also be seen in small hives (nucs) and also in observation hives where the heat loss is much higher than in a traditional hive.
