Swarm during honey flow
Swarms are a phenomenon happening to nearly every beekeeper and you might ask yourself how the hive data will help us understand what is happening inside the hive. We were fortunate enough to witness a swarm out of an instrumented hive. In fact, it was the package shown in our first example. The blue arrows point to the time when a swarm of bees was leaving the hive; 7.2 pounds of them. The interesting part is that the brood nest temperature and thermoregulation is not affected at all. Brood rearing continues as if nothing had happened. Obviously, the new queen started laying before all of the old brood completely emerged. This is nature at its finest.
